Reading Changes your Brain
Let me explain how in 03:24
This is a 500-word article: it will take you less than 5 minutes to read…
Yes, even if you’re a slow reader
Twenty minutes of reading per day. One million words a year.
Think about that for a second…
Every story you read, every idea you absorb, your brain treats it like real experience.
The emotions, the struggles, the decisions, they all leave an imprint on your mind.
Reading doesn’t just give you information.
It changes the way your brain works.
You can learn, in a week, the entire condensed wisdom/experience of the greatest minds that ever walked the earth.
Isn’t that some kind of superpower?
And no, this is different from a YouTube summary, or an audiobook recap, you get to embody what the author thought, what he lived, and what he felt.
All of that, there on paper, in between your hands.
In this article, I’ll show you how reading literally rewires your mind,
and why you need to either get started, or read a ton more. Trust me, it’s worth it!
Part I : Reading Is Not Information
Reading isn’t about learning facts. It’s about becoming someone else for a moment.
I am a part of every book I’ve ever read.
I don’t remember every page of every book, but I embody part of the message, (if I enjoyed it).
Fight club is a good example; I associate to Tyler’s detachment, his freedom, his directness. I live my life as a free man.
Your brain activates the same regions for experience when reading as when living, use this to your advantage.
You can learn from other people’s mistakes, you can copy the success or character of anyone.
Do it until you become it.
If you fake bravery, you are brave!
Reading isn’t input. It’s experience without consequences
Sounds illegal, but it’s totally legit.
Just a heads up, whenever you want more here’s what I offer:

Part II : Reading Physically Rewires Your Brain (Science)
Reading changes your brains structure.
“Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers”
What reading does to your brain:
Builds neural connections tied to memory and comprehension
Increases empathy by forcing you into other perspectives
Strengthens focus in a dopamine-fragmented world
Helps develop deeper, slower thinking
‘’Scrolling trains your reaction. Reading trains your reflection’’
Part III: The Future You
The past me would be shocked at all the books I read and have read, but I’m even more thankful that my past self picked up that first book…
Because if he didn’t, I know that I wouldn’t be writing this article today, and I sure as hell wouldn’t be living my dream life either.
Now remember:
20 minutes a day = 1M words a year = 24 books per year
20 pages a day = 7300 pages a year = 24 books
Each book shapes how you think, decide, and judge
You don’t notice it daily, but months later, you think differently
Reading is not just a good habit to have, it shapes your “mind architecture”
So pick up that book, get reading, and read some more…
Hope you’ve enjoyed reading this short article, I’ll see you in the next one, take care!
You got this
Dan :)
